He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
