He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
