He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
