The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is overthrown, 1 when the stars shall be thrown down, 2 when the mountains shall be set moving, 3 And when the she-camels big with young shall be abandoned, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 when the seas are set boiling, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 and when the girl-child that was buried alive is made to ask 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 And when the heaven has its covering removed, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 That run their course (and) hide themselves, 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 He is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
