The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 And when souls are reunited, 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 for what crime she had been slain, 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede, 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 The rising dawn, 18 Verily it is a Word brought by a messenger honoured, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
