The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 on a fateful Day. 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 You will recognize in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The seal thereof will be of musk. And to this end let the aspirers aspire 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things). 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
