The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Woe to the diminishers, 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 on a Great Day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe, that Day, to those who deny [(Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection, and Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments)]. 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 who, when listening to Our revelations, say, "These are only ancient legends". 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is? 19 (It is) a marked Book, 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed, 29 and winked at one another as they passed them by. 30 And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing. 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
