The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe to the diminishers, 1 Who, when they take the measure (of their dues) from men take it fully, 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe on that day to the rejecters, 10 those who deny the Day of Judgement. 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 Nay, verily the record of the Righteous is (preserved) in 'Illiyin. 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Surely the pious shall be in bliss, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine, sealed, 25 its seal is musk, for this let the competitors compete; 26 And it is mixed with Tasneem. 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 When they returned to their people they returned jesting; 31 And when they saw them, they said: verily these are the strayed ones. 32 though they were not sent to be their keepers -- 33 Wherefore Today, those who believed at the infidels are laughing, 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
