The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
