The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] - 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
