He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
