The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 So, wherefore do they not believe? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
