The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)? ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
