The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 And what can make you know what is the night comer? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. 4 Let man consider what he was made of: 5 he was created of gushing water 6 issuing between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 Surely He is able to bring him back 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 He shall have neither strength nor helper. 10 By the sky with its returning rain, 11 And the earth splitting (with plants); 12 surely it is a decisive word; 13 and is no idle tale. 14 Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). 15 And I am plotting a plot. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
