Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
