Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And carpets spread around. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
