Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
