Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And cups put in place 14 and arranged cushions 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
