Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
