Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a high Garden. 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
