Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
