Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
