Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Join My worshipers and 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
