Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
