Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and the ten nights! 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter among My servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
