Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
