Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
