Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
