Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights! 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
