Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
