The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
