Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
