Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
