Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 in which you are now living 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
