The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
