The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
