The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamud (people) denied (their Prophet) through their transgression (by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism, and by following polytheism, and by committing every kind of sin). 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
