The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
