The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
