The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
