The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
