The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
