The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
