The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
