The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
