Al-Alaq

The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19

True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
