The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
