The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
