The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
