In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
